Serenity **** out of ***** (*** out of *****)
by critter42 on Nov.10, 2005, under Uncategorized
This is another movie, like Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, where one’s opinion about the movie will depend on one’s familiarity with the source material – in this case, the failed Fox Television show Firefly.
R.I.P. Michael Sheard, 1940-2005
by critter42 on Aug.31, 2005, under Uncategorized
Michael Sheard, aka Admiral Ozzel in Star Wars has passed away at age 65. I have put up a couple of pictures from various MidSouthCons, and more can be seen at my MidSouthCon23 picture blog at http://msc23pics.blogspot.com.

This is from a skit performed prior to the MSC 22 Masquerade. The person Michael is mugging for her bottle of hooch is author CJ Cherryh.

This one is from MSC 22’s closing ceremonies, just before he planted a big wet one right on our Toastmaster’s lips
.
We will miss you very much Mr. Sheard. The bright colors will be back after a suitable period.
Batman Begins ***** out of *****
by critter42 on Jun.30, 2005, under Uncategorized
If nothing else, Batman Begins does one thing right: It makes one forget that the last four movies were ever made. This movie is meant to “reset” the Batman motion picture franchise, and does so admirably.

by critter42 on May.20, 2005, under Uncategorized
From The Hollywood Reporter, Revenge of the Sith shattered both the Opening Day record of $40.4 Million held by Spider-Man 2 and the overall 1-day total held by Shrek 2 at $44.8 Million.
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith ****1/2 out of ***** [Spoilers!]
by critter42 on May.20, 2005, under Uncategorized
Well, it’s over (for now). After 28 years and 6 movies, the big screen adventures of the Skywalker clan have come to an end. Bittersweet, especially after the disappointments of Episodes I and II, but a mostly good end to one of our generations most influential piece of pop culture. Read on for my review/impressions of this film.
Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy – *** out of ***** **** out of *****
by critter42 on May.09, 2005, under Uncategorized
I apologize for the lateness of this review, but after I saw the movie, I felt that I needed to go back and read the first book to see if my first impressions held up.
Since I first heard it was being produced, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy has been at the top of my personal Must-See list, with only Revenge of the Sith and possibly Batman Begins up there with it. This will be a mostly spoiler-free review, but if you’ve read the books, there is not going to be much to be spoiled anyway.
New review coming soon!

Well, it’s been a while since I’ve seen anything I want to review, but I will be seeing Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy tonight and will post a review afterwards.
Bloglines and Firefox
by critter42 on Nov.04, 2004, under Uncategorized
I had started using Bloglines a few weeks ago after Nick Bradbury announced Bloglines integration with his FeedDemon RSS aggregator. Shortly thereafter I made the complete switch to Firefox as my web browser.
However, after I switched, I noticed that Bloglines no longer worked properly with Firefox – whenever I would click on one of my feeds, a new blank tab would open with no content and I could not bring up the feed. After some searching, I found that there was an issue with the Tabbed Browsing extension and Bloglines, but one setting in about:config would fix. Unfortunately, this didn’t help me as I didn’t use the Tabbed Browsing Extension.
However, I DO use an extension called Single Window from AAron Spuler which expands the tabbed browsing capabilites of Firefox. After poking around, I saw there was an option for “Open JavaScript links in new tabs” that was checked. I unchecked it, restarted Firefox for the change to take place, and found that Bloglines now worked perfectly!
So if you’re experiencing the problem with a new tab opening when you select a feed in Bloglines, but that tab is empty – check your Single Window extension settings.

I had a rancor-filled, hateful entry here, but after some time of reflection, I have come to the conclusion that this is something that is really dumb to get so worked up about and is so out-of-character for me, so I have deleted that post and ask anyone that reads this blog to forgive me for being an ass.
